A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERVISOR AT THE CANFIELD LIBRARY:
Hello, Educators in the Canfield Library's Service Area!
It's that time again - Summer Discovery at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County kicks off May 1st! Attached you will find a flyer about this year's program. Please consider linking it to your website or sharing it on your parent-notification network. If you'd rather have hard copies made for your students, please reply to this email with how many you need, and we'll deliver them before the end of the school year.
The last two years required a major shift in how we offered our Summer Discovery program, but the underlying message has always been to keep reading and learning all summer long to prevent the dreaded summer slide. We think this year's program will be fun and exciting, as participants of all ages can earn 2 points a day with prizes given at various intervals to reward the effort.
Here at the Canfield Library, we're pleased to offer in-person programs for all ages that align with our theme of "Oceans of Possibilities." For our youngest learners, we will continue to offer story times, plus we will have an ocean-themed sensory play time. For school age children, we have planned STEM and DIY programs about the ocean and sand. Teens will have the opportunity to tie-dye a bag and create stained glass art. And adults can solve a mystery, make a craft, or attend a book club.
Our summer finale program will show off the newly renovated Main Library. Everyone's invited to an End of Summer Beach Party at Main on August 13th! That morning, kids who complete the Summer Discovery Program will be thrilled to see Jerry Pallotta, author of the popular Who Would Win? animal book series.
We hope to see you and your students at the Library this summer. If I can ever be of service to you, your staff, and your students, please let me know.
Enjoy the rest of your school year, and thanks for all you do.
