Kindergarten Registration / Open Enrollment Information

Kindergarten Registration 2026-2027 

Kindergarten registration for students who live in the South Range Local School District will be taken the week of March 2 - 6, 2026. Parents/Guardians of children who will be five years old on or before the first day of school, which is September 9, 2026, may register online and make an appointment for screening by going to our school’s website during the designated week. The kindergarten screening dates are Monday, April 27, 2026 and Tuesday, April 28, 2026.  Time slots will be from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  

A child must be five years old or a student who has not completed first grade, six years old, or before the District’s first day of instruction.  First day of instruction for 2026-27 is September 9, 2026.

Students to be registered must be residents of the South Range School District.

Parents/Guardians of students who live outside the district can check the district website for the most up-to-date information about when open enrollment for new students will occur. 
 

HB 114 - Kindergarten Admission

R.C. 3321.01 has been amended to change the age of students enrolling in kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year.

  1. A child must be five years old or a student who has not completed first grade, six years old, or before the District’s first day of instruction. (Example: August 26th) and not a specific date set forth in the law.

  2. In a district in which all children are admitted to the first grade in August or September, a child shall be admitted if the child is six years of age by the thirteenth day of September of the year of admittance, or by the first day of a term or semester other than on beginning in August or September in school districts granting admittance at the beginning of such term or semester.

  3. If requested, a child is still to be evaluated for early admission if the student is not five years old for kindergarten and six years old for first grade prior to January 1st of the school year in which admission is requested.
